Softly, Softly, Ongoing

This is the beginning of a love letter. One to Chicago, the midwest, queerness, and most importantly the individuals that have gifted me the time to make portraits of them. It is a thank you for being in this moment with me. A proof of their beautiful and complex existence.

My newest body of work “Softly, softly” focuses on tender and subtle moments of queer solitude. Each image illustrates the multitude of feelings and experiences contained in each subject. My practice as a photographer is in the art of noticing. To be seen in all their complexities, their longing, loneliness, desire, loss, and love. Paired with a practice in film photography this project creates a physical archive of the individuals. The film negative then becomes a love letter we can hold in our hands, an artifact we can come back to, and remember who we were.
